What is the purpose of a toggle switch?
Pushing a handle or lever on a toggle switch controls the flow of electricity to a particular device. When the switch operator presses the toggle (the actuator), the armature positions the contact to initiate or stop an electrical current.
Why are there three pins on switches?
The switch can either have a connection to the ground at pin 3 or be left open at that position. This is the pin from which the rocker switch gets its power. This is the pin that makes the connection to the circuit’s load, which is whatever the rocker switch controls while it is in the “on” position. For example, lights, motors, and so forth.
