RELAYS ALL VOLTAGES

General Purpose Relays are electromechanical switches, usually operated by a magnetic coil. General purpose relays operate with AC or DC current, at common voltages such as 12V, 24V, 48V, 120V and 230V, and they can control currents ranging from 2A-30A.

Description

Relays are a type of switch that may open and close circuits using either an electromechanical or electrical mechanism. It opens and closes connections in other circuits to control one electrical circuit. . No current flows through the relay when it is set to Normally Closed (NC). In both instances, introducing an electrical current to the contacts will alter their state.

Small motors and Solenoids that use modest amps are the exceptions to the rule; when it comes to using relays in a control circuit. Nonetheless, these can “control” bigger voltages and amperes by having an amplifying effect; as a little voltage given to a relay’s coil can cause the contacts to switch a huge voltage.

Protective relays can avoid equipment damage by sensing electrical anomalies such as overcurrent, undercurrent, overloads, and reverse currents. Other common uses for relays include switching starter coils, heating components, pilot lights, and audio warnings.
